The end of the season is upon us. The rut is here and the mature bucks are on the move. Unstable weather during the last couple of weeks is hindering our hunting efforts, however, during the rut in south Alabama one can't help but see bucks often.
December 16, 2003We're enjoying some great deer hunting weather these days. The cold has the deer activity on the increase. As the acorns begin to play out we expect to see an increasing amount of activity in the food plots.
We extend a big congrats to one of our Pursley Creek regulars, Mr. Bob Pankake, who took 187 1/4 B&C whitetail recently while hunting in Canada! We hope to show you a picture of that huge buck in the near future.Merry Christmas to all.

It has been the wettest summer on record here in south Alabama. After several years of dry weather that put a lot of stress on the deer herd, the weather pattern has improved dramatically. Some weeks have seen rain every day. Plenty of healthy browse should improve the overall health of the deer herd. The abundant acorn crop that we are seeing on the limbs right now won't hurt a bit either, giving the animals plenty to eat heading into this winter.

The bucks really moved well the last couple of weeks of January as the rut hit full swing. We had a great weekend of deer hunting this past weekend and our clients from New York saw a lot of deer and took a few real nice ones. Check out the photo album. Bucks are rutting hard and we've had good luck in seeing some mature ones. The bitter cold weather means the deer must feed more and move more which plays right into the hands of the hunter.
January 7, 2003We are just beginning to see the rut in our area. Serious scrapes have appeared in the woods in the last week to 10 days and are being worked on a regular basis. Some really fine bucks have been taken in the area in the last month. Congrats to Don Gardner who took a 325 lb. hog at Pursley Creek this past weekend (photo coming real soon!). Deer season ends January 31st. Hunting is going to be great from now until then.
December 2, 2002Guide G. Alford reports seeing 8 bucks in one green patch including one "wall hanger" within the last week. The cool weather has definitely gotten the bucks moving. The deer are scrapping up the remaining acorns and also spending a good bit of time in the green patches. Around the area, lots of good bucks have been taken by hunters and the season is just getting underway good.

Congrats to Don Gardner for killing several hogs last weekend! He reports that he saw quite a few bucks stirring as well as the first weekend of gun deer season opened. The weather was great with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. The Game Cams will go out real soon. Check back in a few weeks to see some of those pictures.
October 29, 2002Early season bowhunters have seen and killed quite a few hogs. We're seeing lots of them right now. Also, hunters have seen numerous quality bucks since bow season opened on Oct. 15. The 2001-2002 deer season has come to a close. The last week of the season proved to be the most successful of the year. Three mature bucks were harvested with several others being spotted. Several bucks were caught on motion cameras checking scrapes. See the Infrared Camera page and the Photo Album page for new pictures.
We will begin our off-season feeding program which includes a steady diet of soybeans for the deer. Check the Infrared Camera page for new pictures during the months to come

The peak of the rut appears to be upon us. We are expecting a lot of action before the season concludes on Jan. 31st. The weather continues to provide some good and poor times of hunting. Rainy days and warm weather have slowed deer movement on some days, but the deer have moved well when fresh cool air blows in behind the passing fronts. Congratulations to Bo Dunnam who killed his first buck, an 8 pt. You can see Bo's buck at the Photo Album.
January 9, 2002More bucks were caught on film last week with infrared cameras. Most of the activity was late in the evening around scrapes and rubs. Several mature bucks were spotted this past weekend, but none were harvested. The rain and snow has done away with some of the acorns the deer were feeding on in the woods. Deer are now using the food plots more than they were a few weeks ago. Click on the infrared camera page for new photos.

Cold weather has arrived in south Alabama here in early January. Several inches of snow also fell on the 1st and 2nd days of the month. Deer are really on the move now. New scrapes and rubs are showing up daily even though the woods are already filled with them. It is a clear sign that the rut is at full steam. Bitter cold weather is also great for getting the hogs to move 24 hours a day and greatly increasing your chance to shoot one or even several. It is going to be a busy few weeks between now and the end of deer season on January 31st. Stay tuned weekly as we bring you the latest from Pursley Creek Guide Service. Deer hunting just doesn't get any better than Wilcox County in January!December 20, 2001
This past weekend's weather was pretty bad. We had four inches of rain with heavy winds and thunderstorms. Temperatures have gone back down to normal and deer are starting to move and feed more frequently. More scrapes and rubs are being found and bucks are starting to move in behind the does. The motion cameras will be picked up this week and hopefully have some pictures to post. Return to the website to view the pictures as they are developed. Weather for the Christmas week looks cold!December 12, 2001
Several groups of wild hogs have been spotted in numerous food plots. One group had 42 in it. Buck activity picked up Sunday with a cold front passing through. Three mature bucks were spotted easing through a hayfield Sunday evening. Does appear to be very healthy and are moving about more frequently. Rain is in the forecast for this week and hopefully some colder weather will follow. Visit the website for more updates and pictures.

Deer activity has picked up over the last week with the cooperation of the weather. Acorns are still plentiful with more falling to the ground every day and the food plots look excellent. Two good bucks were spotted on Friday afternoon (11-30-01) and one was caught on film with an infrared camera. Scrapes and rubs are plentiful in the hardwood bottoms along creeks and drains. Cameras have been placed around these areas to try to capture one of the bucks on film.
Visit the website on a regular basis to see updates and new pictures as they are developed.

Deer season is going well here in Wilcox County, Alabama! A bumper acorn crop is now dropping, providing plenty of reasons for the mature bucks to venture out of the thickets. Food plots are looking great thanks to the recent rains in the past week.
Our hunters have been seeing lots of deer, more on the cooler days as is the usual case. We have also seen lots of hogs so far this fall.
