Forrest, I know our Great Physician hears our pleas and prayers on your behalf. "HE Knows the plans He has for you, to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you a hope and a future." says Jer. 29:11-12. Many are calling on Him on your behalf these days and praying too for the peace and comfort that can only come from our Lord surround your dear family as well.

Forrest, you belong to an all powerful God Who has an everlasting love for you! II Chronicles 16:9a tells us "The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the whole earth seeking those whose hearts are completely His so that He may show Himself strong on their behalf." Brother, we are fervently praying that our mighty God WILL SHOW HIMSELF STRONG ON YOUR BEHALF and give you many, many more good years to live for Him and for your dear family and for your many friends. Forrest, even though things seem insurmountable at times, God promises "Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places plain." Isaiah 40:4 I know what a strong Christian heart you have and that you want nothing more than to watch your little girls grow up. "Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strenghth. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31 We can't wait for you to come back home! RUN FORREST RUN!!

We love you and you are in our prayers several time a day. Your family is an inspiration and an example of how to handle life's difficulties. We're never prepared for these times. Anne and I remember the days of her mother's (Mary Anne Anderson) heart transplant at UAB. Now it seems like a blur. We were in somewhat of a fog as this deal was going on. I know, speaking personally, I was very concerned, but could only do so much. The main thing that I could do was pray and read. I was comforted particularly from reading in the Psalms of our Holy Bible. Our Lord was with us. We didn't know if Miss Mary Anne would get a new heart in time and stay with us, or if she was going to heaven. But we know God was in control either way. God chose to give Miss Mary Anne to us for many more years. She's seen 8 more grandchildren born, and who knows what all else. Our prayer is that Forrest will enjoy his grandchildren here on Earth. Congratulations on the birth of your precious new baby.

I work with Ramona Fryer (Julie Smith's mother)at First Baptist Church-Opp and have become one of your prayer warriors. I remembered praying specifically last Sunday when Ramona told me that you were doing better. It is such a joy to see how God answers prayers. Please know of our continued prayers for you and your family. God's got it all worked out His way/His plan. I read in my devotional this morning that "when your life is rocked, your foundation in Christ is exposed." What a wonderful testimony you will have to share in encouraging others! God bless you. Reading the postings on here was like a trip down memory lane! Ken Agee sent me your page. I thought it strange I have known two other people who had this rare ailment and then on the Mobile news the next day they showed a 12 year old girl who has it. She has certainly beaten all odds and you will too! I know you are on a prayer list in Florida, Tennesse, Kansas and Michigan so remember this and take strength from it. So glad we have this method of staying in touch and bless whoever put it together. Hurry home! God Bless, Brenda and Bill

You might read one of these verses to Forrest at night before leaving him: “I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.” --Psalm 4:5 (NKJV) “I will both lie down in peace, and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.” --Psalm 4:8 (NKJV) “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear.” --Psalm 56:3-4 (NKJV) “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, But the Lord delivers him out of them all.” --Psalm 34:19 (NKJV) “But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.” --Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV) A reminder … My mother was on a ventilator for 39 days and as her sedation was reduced, no one thought to tell her that she was on a ventilator, which was breathing for her, and that is why she could not talk temporarily. She wrote on a legal pad with a magic marker that she couldn’t talk. As her sedation was reduced, she could write with a magic market (if you held the legal pad) a word or two to communicate her needs and this may – or may not –be possible with Forrest. Also, after the sedation was reduced, her arms were untied at my request. Before that, I’d untie one at the time and pretend to exercise her arms (so that I could untie them). Remember to tell Forrest that the ventilator is breathing for him right now and that he will be able to talk later. May God uphold you and your family during this difficult time. My heart aches for Forrest and his family. In prayer for you, Susan (Toosie) McKelvey, sister of Sam Ervin McKelvey and sister-in-law Angie Montgomery resident (Camden native)

I worked with Ed Reeves......I had a daughter that had 'cancer' when she was 2 yrs old. Through the email we created a prayer list much like this where I update people frequently on your specific prayer needs as we fought this battle. Praise GOD for prayer and the POWER IN PRAYER. Ed knows this as well ....... he called me last week to add Forrest and his family to Carty's list.......I can not begin to tell you how many people are praying for Carty and now Forrest as well. Do not lose hope.... our God is a God of forever hope.... keep the faith.........Hebrews 11:1 reminds of what faith is. See Ed for the update I sent on for Forrest and I pray the words will be encouragement for your heart/soul. I truly feel they are not my words, but my prayer is always that those who read them will hear and feel the presence of the Lord. God Bless......you are in my prayers daily!!!!! Actually, I am going to try and copy it to this....if not, Ed has it. ............................... November 26, 2002 Happy Thanksgiving!!!!! It’s been over a month since my last update. You know, I ask myself and the Lord…..do I continue this? Do I stop, if so, when? Who is to say, folks are tired perhaps even bored with our news? I know I have wanted to get on this computer for weeks now, and I battle with, is this what/how you want to use me Lord? Then I receive a phone call yesterday from a friend I use to work with, he and his family were also prayer warriors for Carty [see he receives these emails as well], but yesterday instead of calling to simply say ‘hello, which he will do once in a blue moon to check on Carty and last we spoke it was to share he will soon be a daddy for the second time. But yesterday he wanted me to place a friend of his [a friend who is like a brother on this prayer list]. Lord, I was so humbled that he knew your people were faithful to ask me to place his dear friend and his family on Your list oh Lord. My friend’s name is Ed; and his friend is Forrest Johnson. Forrest was in a bad car wreck some weeks back ----made it through that horrible ordeal [miracle from above] and a week or so later he started feeling really bad. Finally he was diagnosed with a fatal condition ARD’s [acute respiratory distress syndrome]. Forrest is 33, now at UAB on life support and his wife just had their second child last Friday. They now are blessed with two precious little girls [under the age of 4]. I have misplaced my notes [think they are at work] from Ed with the family’s names…I know his wife is from Columbus. Either way, the Lord knows who they are………let us be faithful and lift them up to Him in prayer and for complete healing for Forrest. And pray for Ed and Christy…this must be a hard time for them as well. They just celebrated their new blessing 6 weeks ago when their daughter was born. I praise God for this family (Forrest) and their faith [Ed says their faith is GREAT], and praise God for Ed----knowing and believing there is power in prayer and seeking it. We know that we place our hope in God, even when there is no hope …we are so reminded in Hebrews 11:1 Faith is the substance of things hoped for and evidence of things not seen. So when Ed called me to ask for you to pray for his friend, who is like a brother-----I knew my answer from the Lord was to send this email. The Lord will make it clear to me and you when this is finished. I truly believe He has brought us together for a reason. I want to say somewhere in the Bible there is a verse about ‘everything has it’s season’, and I know this JOURNAL [now 95+pages since we began our journey in October 2000] has its. However, where people are concerned [especially friends and believers------I truly believe the Lord brings us together for a purpose to stand with each other in times of need, but also in times of joy and THANKSGIVING. Some of you I have never met, but I know one day when we are in Heaven I will meet you then J And what a THANKSGIVING THAT WILL BE!!! To share with you an update of where we have been… a lot has been going on in our lives. God is really showing His direction and setting us on a peaceful and clear path [that is such an AWESOME place to be]. And in those areas of unknown, it is also exciting to not hold on to the control, but again… turn it over to Him knowing His way will be the right way, but mostly it will be the BEST way. Even when the eyes of the world says different…..we must remember, we do not look at life through the eyes of this world, but with/through our heavenly Father. It is like our children, who/how do you want them to see the world…….through the eyes of someone in the world or hopefully through the eyes of you, their parent [earthly godly Father/Mother]. For example, recently the world and circumstances around me kept throwing out these words in regards to Carty and her behavior as being different… then I kept hearing words like different types of autism or autistic traits. And I began asking, “Lord, are you telling me this? Opening these doors, wanting me to go in?” I did not want to have my head in the sand, yet I wanted to know that as an earthly god fearing parent---I was doing everything that the Lord would desire for me to do for my child. After all, Carty has been through sooooo much. So Mike and I discussed it, prayed about it and had a peace to discuss with Dr. Triolio if Carty showed any signs of autism??? Yet, we were not going to place our faith in his hands. We knew the Lord was controlling everything. Remember, we took Carty to Dr. Triolio when she was going through chemo [so he knew her history, etc.]…the entire ordeal seemed to traumatized her so, that we wanted to discuss with him---if we were doing everything in our power to make her environment as comfortable as could be expected [considering we were in/at the hospital weekly to be stuck and the shots every other week, plus blood transfusion…..you remember]. Through the power of prayer the Lord got us through those days/weeks. Praise God Triolio did not see any traits of the A word. And I must admit I went in to see him thinking, ‘ok he will get atleast 6-10 visits out of this….stretch it out for all it is worth’. Please know I am not anti-doctor------but I was preparing myself. After speaking with him, he really gained a lot of respect in my eyes and I felt such a peace about the entire ordeal. Plus, the fact he too has a child that had cancer------so he can relate more so than perhaps someone who can not. I really respect this doctor and not just because he does not feel Carty has autism. Grant it, Carty does have some speech delay….there are things she does that are above a 4 year old level in her speech classes, yet there are those things she is more like a 2 year old. Dr. Triolio reminded us once again, finding out about cancer at such a critical developmental time in her life [2-3year] is definitely a factor. Plus, Carty did have a very difficult protocol. I must remember to always know and stand on what I believe the Lord revealed to me from HIM when Carty was only 9-10 months old… when I broke down in tears as she laid in my arms…..I know now more about what those words/tears mean [“Carty, I can’t explain this, but God has such an awesome calling on your life.”] …..yet I also know I must place my trust, hope and faith in God who prepared me then for now and the years ahead. I pray over my children nightly…and many times more often than not, I anoint them as they sleep so peaceful with some holy anointing oil one of Carty’s prayer warriors gave me. I know it is a symbol, but a symbol of His very presence and touch on their precious bodies. God speaks of anointing often in the Bible, not just for sickness, but battle. And living in this world, we must prepare daily. Truly placing the armor of the Lord on daily. Ephesians 6:10-18. AFLAC Cancer Center did a calendar as a fundraiser for the children’s center and Carty was asked to participate. We had the opportunity to go up a couple of weeks ago [actually 1-day before her first treatment November 14, 2000-hard to believe that has been two years]. I want you to know it was June the last time we were at Egleston and Carty knew when we got on Clifton Road where she was… and what a death grip she had on Mommy when we got out of the garage. Praise God we were a little late and the clapping was going on when we walked in to the AFLAC Cancer Center. Dan Amos and Kathelen Spencer had begun giving out the children’s art work ‘framed’ for them to keep. Carty’s masterpiece will now hang on our wall as a reminder of God’s wonderful miracle HE PERFORMED within her and His wonderful gift of her. We were also reminded how blessed we are. There are always the happy stories, but in return you hear the ones that break your heart [yet, I know I truly don’t know the meaning of how that must feel and pray I never do]. One family received a special frame/portrait of their precious child that had fought the battle, and left their family behind. I can’t say this child lost, because if we know the Lord………we never lose the battle!!! For Christ has already fought the fight for us. And HE WON!!!!!!!! I often say, ‘there have been so many blessing that have come out of this ordeal’. The testing of my faith, the mere fact, I can’t go back to the way I was [not that I/it was bad, God has shown me soooo much………yet, I still feel like I am such a babe in Christ---------ohhhh how there is still so much more to learn from Him]. I feel sometimes He has given me so much, yet I know, it is only a glimpse. Then I think, folks probably say, ‘yea, that is easy for you to say…you have your child.’ And that is true, I don’t know what I would be saying to you now if I didn’t have Carty or Mary-Frances. I can only hope that in my deepest of hurt and pain, I would see more of Jesus. There is a book I love……… Just Give Me Jesus, by Ann Graham Lotz. She so beautifully describes and shares her experiences of desiring and receiving more of Christ. Is it possible? YES! YES! YES! Someone I met through Carty’s experience that has been such a blessing to me, Jami Guinn. Jami, Jeff and their family just celebrated Levi’s first birthday [November 13] since he went to heaven. They have a website [www.leviguinn.org] they dedicate to their little man “Levi”, but ole how it is such a dedication to the Lord as well. This family had such faith like you would not believe, yet in the midst of this pain, they are finding there is still more Christ to fill their soul………where could they put Him, but He will find a place within your heart of hearts and soul of souls to give you comfort, thirst for more of Him. My desire is to have that desire to have more of Him without having to have the pain and loss of a love one…….is it possible………….I believe it is………God wants us to comfort and be there for one another. In that He desires for us to feel their pain, cry when they cry, laugh when they rejoice [I know there is a scripture that sums this]. Then let us oh Lord lift those in prayer tonight as though they were our own. Let us see, feel, touch, smell, know more of you and your very presence with us. We can have this by allowing you to flow through us, which in return draws others to you. I was so reminded last week when a precious lady spoke to our ladies ministry at church on the covenant God we serve. Think of a covenant between a husband and wife…….they are to become one. Feel each others pain, joy, fear, etc…. they can only do this when they are both in communion with the Lord as their foundation. Can this not also apply with believers. No, we are not the one like husband/wife with God as the foundation. But as believers we still have the same foundation of Christ to stand on. And as we encourage, pray and draw near to our brothers/sisters in Christ, we can feel their pain and share in their joys and experience Christ more fully. When we draw near to our other brother’s and sisters in Christ through prayer, encouragement, support, unity……..we will draw nearer to the Lord as well. Yes, there are some of us that God allows to walk through the battles of this world [notice I said ‘through’], but we still need our sisters and brothers to draw near and desire to see/feel/know more of Jesus and the God we are in covenant with for eternity. I am reading the book by Lisa Beamer ‘Let’s Roll’ ------- what an inspiration and a testimony of God’s grace, strength, courage, and hope. As Jami put it so beautiful in one of her latest updates; …. This is the way I look at it: God is good, He is in full control, He is and was not surprised by that brain tumor and Levi's death. And if I believe that I must believe that Levi was never intended to live past December 20th 2001. God had strong intentions in Levi's death and its timing. To go back to things the way we were would be to spit in God's face. He meant for it to rock our world, for us to think more eternally, to live more recklessly abandoned to His ways, wherever they may take us... I want to get all that HE intended for us in this heartbreak. "The grapes must be crushed to become wine" and we have truly been crushed, to go back to a "grape" just will not do. To do so would dishonor God and undercut the depth of love we have for Levi. I like that verse in Ephesians 5:15; it works well in my heart, "Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity... sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.(vs. 19) I want to be careful, very, very careful how I live now. Everything is different now, as it should be. There are some good things that HE is doing in me now. I am less likely to sweat the small stuff, I love more deeply, I have a deeper "place" for people who are hurting. I waste less time being busy and use more time being still. I don't rush, rush, rush to be what other people think I should be, I'd rather stay home, curl up on the couch with my children and touch them, hold them, scratch backs because I can for today, tomorrow they might not be here... I have a really cool thing going on inside me these days too: I want to know God, the real God. Not a "churchy" God. Not the God I used to know because after the last 10 months of searching for Him and the truth of His character I have discovered that everything I thought of him was a "shortshot." I feel as if I am at the beginning of a really great adventure. HE is a treasure just waiting to be discovered but like all hidden treasure it must be wanted, it can't be stumbled upon.... And you know the most exciting thing about folks like Jami, and the Lisa Beamer’s of the world…..God has only begun to show Himself to them, through them, and to/through us as well…if we allow Him. Be faithful. And know… Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [He is the groom, we are the bride]. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. John 14:1-3 And a scripture that can be hard to live out in our world today, but remember we are not to be in the world, therefore through Christ, we can do all things. He gave us a new commandment, “That you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34 And as we show our love for others, we will be showing God’s love through us, plus we will experience and see more of God. Remembering the covenant He has made with us………He will never leave us or forsake us…………and He is coming back for us!!! I love you, Jenn Those we are lifting up in prayer and praise: Forrest Johnson [ARD’s] Helen Bowden [cancer free-remission] Ann Krout [cancer free-remission] Stephen Swinehart [cancer free-remission] Gus Evans[cancer remission, pray for his strength] Bobby Flournoy [just diagnosed with cancer] Kirkland Scout [seeing some great signs in the tumor size/growth…praying it is destroyed] Carty [continue for God to do miracles that only He can receive credit for in her speech, development and continued healing]

Forrest, I have always looked up to you. I still watch films of you when your class played football, to see how much effort you gave and the heart you put into it. You keep that up and you will pull through this. Nothing gave me a greater pride than the night I wore your number on the back of my helmet at Marengo.I will continue to pray everyday for Forrest's recovery. Get Well Soon Forrest.
