WILCOX COUNTY, ALABAMA
2001 Fall Pilgrimage
September 29, 2001
The Wilcox Historical Society will be sponsoring the Fall Pilgrimage this year on Saturday, September 29. We will be featuring homes and other historic buildings and sites in the Canton Bend and Camden area. The tour headquarters/starting point will be at the Wilcox Female Institute in Camden. Proceeds from the tour tickets will be used to improve and maintain the Female Institute and the Miller Law Office in Camden, and the recently acquired Dunn/Fairley/Bonner home in Camden, referred to historically as the Thomas Dunn Home.
We have the following homes and sites scheduled for the Pilgrimage. These include Youpon Plantation located in Canton Bend; the Wilcox Female Institute, Miller Law Office, the Dunn/Fairley/Bonner Home, the Bloch House, and the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in the "downtown" Camden area; the Jones/Harper Home located on Highway 10 East; the Sterrrett/McWilliams Home, the Cannon/Johnson Home, and the Liddell/Burford Home located in the historic area of Camden. On Saturday, lunch will be available at Gaines Ridge Dinner Club near Camden. The tour will be on Saturday from 9:00 to 6:00.
The participating homes have pictures and a rather detailed writeup included in the pamphlet, which is displayed on our web site link. Other homes and sites may be listed by owner with a brief description of style, date constructed, location on the tour map, etc., and this information will be provided on the tour days. You are especially invited to take the walking tour of Camden featuring the downtown sites. Details are available at the tour ticket site located in the Wilcox Female Institute on Broad Street.
We encourage you to join us in this celebration of our history. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. If you have any questions or want a pamphlet, please call Don Donald at 334-682-9825, or write or call the Wilcox Historical Society at P.O. Box 464, Camden, AL 36726.For more information see the NEXT PAGE ...
